Edy Pickens began her artistic journey in South Carolina, where she was influenced by her grandmother, a prolific artist, and her mother, a gifted pianist. After she received a B.A. in studio art from Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia and an M.F.A. in painting from Indiana University, Edy moved to Los Angeles, where she began teaching at the prestigious Brentwood School. For the past decade, Pickens has been developing an interdisciplinary style which expresses a pantheistic empathy with nature and, more specifically, an impassioned connection to horses and rural landscapes. In addition to helping guide others on the path to artistic enlightenment she has also been writing/recording/performing music with The Ventriloquists and Dragon Layzer. She often finds herself reconciling the differences and highlighting the similarities between her rural Southern roots and the metropolitan behemoth she now calls home.
